1880s Family Tomb
Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans, Louisiana
In 2016, Oak and Laurel Cemetery Preservation, LLC was contracted by the descendant family to restore its circa 1885 tomb. Due to deferred maintenance, the tomb roof was heavily decated.
The tomb roof was reconstructed using lime-based mortars. The segmental arch, decorative stucco keystone, and respective cornicework were replicated where necessary without losing detail. The tomb's stucco scoring and shelf brackets were also restored.
Finally, the tomb was re-finished using historic limewash color-matched to the tomb's original pigment.
