Society Tomb
Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana
In 2016, Oak and Laurel Cemetery Preservation assisted a descendant of a historic Italian society member in obtaining ownership of the society's tomb. The following tomb restoration included repairing the Georgia "solar gray" marble pediment, cleaning the marble surfaces, and re-setting the marble cross which had fallen onto the tomb roof.
The tomb's standing-seam copper roof was found to be retaining water due to a clogged drain line, which was cleared. The tomb presently receives regular debris removal from its roof.
