'Turning Angel,' Natchez Drug Company Memorial
Natchez City Cemetery, Natchez, Mississippi
In June 2020, one of the best-known features of Natchez City Cemetery was damaged by a person who managed to push it backward off of its pedestal, breaking its wings upon impact with the ground.
After a lengthy bid process with the Natchez City Cemetery Association, Oak and Laurel Cemetery Preservation, LLC was contracted to re-attach the angel's wings.
A local monument company lifted the angel onto its pedestal, after which Oak and Laurel re-joined the broken pieces using small carbon fiber pins and several pigments of lime-based stone repair mortar.
Natchez City Cemetery is one of the most lovely cemeteries in the South, and it draws thousands each year with its "Angels on the Bluff" living history program. Oak and Laurel is so honored to have played a small part in the care of this historic landmark.
